My Goodness, I wish I had been born a Southern Girl!
Born and raised in California, my own version of “palm trees lining Sunset Boulevard” dreams have always been FAR away from the West Coast.
Instead of dreaming about the sun lowering over the Pacific Ocean, I spent my adult life daydreaming my way through the pages of Southern Living Magazine.
I still can see myself swinging on a porch swing under the shade of a giant tree while drinking sweet tea. Just me and the frogs…or some handsome cowboy. Maybe chickens. Fine, just me and a bunch of little friends surrounded by lush green landscape of moss and hydrangeas. Oh, and some biscuits.
Maybe it’s totally unrealistic. I’m sure it is. That’s ok, because hope is not lost. We’ve got Movies like Steel Magnolias and books like The Guy on the Right.
Mrs. Kate Stewart has created the perfect literary dreamscape for me to indulge in my Southern lifestyle fantasy. So perfect that I’ve spent four days walking around half asleep, pretending to be a mom and wife who just needs a little nap from my “headache”. All because I’ve been staying up reading through Laney and Theo’s adventures the in the blessed silence while my family sleeps. Only stopping when the reminder of dawn’s blue sky shows through the windows busting me into reality.
It’s not her first time taking me to a place to get away for a while. Mrs. Stewart has taken me to Chicago’s Wicker Park in the winter with the characters in “The Real”. Life has been hot and lusty in the crystal blue waters of St. Thomas in her book “Someone Else’s Ocean”. There have been many adventures and always a happily ever after as I’ve read through each of her books. I’ve never met her in person, but I love her for it!
Kate Stewart has written THE most PERFECT ROMANCE.
It’s an underdog story. Not too much drama, gut busting hysterically funny scenes that will make you cry, and the most tummy tingling moments of sweet sweet build up to the most luscious love imaginable. With very little drama.
Laney is instantly lovable. She’s all country and a little Taco Bell. Theo is that quintessential Band “Geek” with a few tricks up his sleeve and surprises down in his basement. He may be the underdog, but he is definitely comes out on top. Both of these characters and the supporting cast are incredibly refreshing, fun and leave you wanting more. Then there’s the scene of all comedic scenes…the Edible Gummy. For God’s sake. I’ve never laughed so hard while reading.
Sometimes we need a story with that smooth incline into satisfaction. It’s good. This book is so, SO GOOD!
The Guy On The Right (aka TGOR) will make you laugh, blush and feel good all over: do yourself a favor and take a book vacation. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
Laney and Theo will warm your heart, make you bust a gut and heat up your bed, if you let it 😉.
Another slam dunk Mrs. Stewart. Well done! 🌟💫

Strike One-My mother named me Theodore after her favorite chipmunk.
Not cool, Mom.
I‘ve spent most of my life answering to Teddy, because I couldn’t make Theo work.
Except for here. College. The place where all bets are off, and I’ve managed to redeem myself.
There’s only one problem, my new roommate, Troy, is football royalty and looks like he stepped off the set of an Abercrombie shoot.
Doesn’t matter, I cook a mean breakfast for his panty parade, and we get along well.
And anyway, this year I got the girl. And she’s perfect.
That’s right. Theodore Houseman, former band geek, now marching band rock star has finally landed the girl of his dreams.
Everything is perfect.
That is, until Troy takes a good look at her.
I’m not going down without a fight. As a matter of fact, I’m not going down at all. As glorious as these days may be for my all-star roommate, Laney is my end game.
I may not know much about play strategy, but I’ve been the good guy my whole life. I’ve been listening and I know exactly what women want. Framed in a picture standing next to me, Troy may seem like Mr. Perfect, but he’s underestimating the guy on the right.
Spoiler alert: In this story, the underdog is going to win.
